What exactly is Fairtrade?

Another good question!

World trade rules aren’t always fair. Small-scale farmers and workers in developing countries face the challenges of rising food and fuel costs, an increasingly unpredictable climate and volatile prices for their goods.

Today more than 6 million people – farmers, producers, workers and their families across 58 developing countries in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean benefit from the Fairtrade system through unique Fairtrade standards.

Fairtrade assists producers in developing countries to obtain better and fairer access to markets and trading conditions which in turn promotes long-term sustainability and environmental responsibility.

By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. This enables farmers and workers to improve their position, and have more control over their lives.

By choosing Fairtrade Certified products, you help create a brighter future for millions of farmers, workers and their families in developing countries.
